Queens/Nassau Lions Founder and Coach

My name is Andrew Greene and I have taught physical education, have been athletic director and coached high school sports for over 15 years. In my youth I played baseball in high school and college at the D2 and D3 level.

As I started coaching my son’s teams and getting around youth baseball I have seen a lot has changed from when I was a youth. I have seen there is no middle ground between recreation leagues and travel baseball. If you want your child to develop and be challenged as a baseball player then they eventually have to play travel baseball for better or for worse.

My experience with my son playing travel baseball has been a little frustrating. I saw adults coaching who were very nice but did not know the game of baseball. I saw adults that knew the game of baseball, but did not know how to run a practice and keep kids engaged and challenged. I saw adults that knew baseball, but did not have the patience or knowledge of child development to coach young ball players.

After talking with some like minded fathers who played baseball, and worked with kids as well, we came to the conclusion that we have to start our own team in order for things to be done in the right way and have the control needed to really develop these ball players on and off the field. I do not know if our sons are going to go pro, but I want to create a team that will create a kid friendly safe environment where the players will learn the right way to play baseball and get excited to come to practice and play baseball.
